1._About The IELTS Writing Exam

The Writing test is different for the Academic and General Training versions of the test.

Both exam types have 2 tasks.

For General Training Task 1, you must write a letter.

TASK 1

For Academic Task 1, you will write about a graph, table or diagram.

For both Academic and General Training task 2, you will write an essay.

2. OUR EXAM

For this test you will read a mixture of both Academic and General Training questions, and also some student written responses.

You will read the Task 1 and Task 2 questions and evaluate the student answers given.



3. What to Do

This exam contains 15 questions.

You should:

Read the questions and answers.

Choose the correct answer.

Please allow 15+ minutes to complete this test.

4. Get Ready

IMPORTANT: As you read the writing excerpts, evaluate them in terms of the four (4) IELTS criteria (this will be shown on exam):

  1. Task Achievement

  • the answer fully addresses all parts of the task

2. Vocabulary

  • the language is suitable

3. Grammar

  • the answer uses a variety of grammatical structures accurately and effectively

4. Coherence and cohesion

  • the answer is understandable and flows from one idea to the next

We recommend you take the exam in one (1) sitting.

However, if you have a Gmail account, you can save your test and return to it later.
